Denzel as Alcoholic pilot in Flight movie – I’m an Alcoholic

Denzel as Alcoholic pilot in Flight movie Can you Relate?! All right we’re gonna watch a clip from
the movie flight with Denzel Washington I’m sure we’ve all seen it
2012 film about an alcoholic pilot crash lands a plane saving nearly everybody on
board but then goes to trial and a trial for
the flight phase his life and his dignity and his morality but if you
haven’t seen that this is a spoiler this is the end scene and it’s one of the
most captivating Denzel just kills it just captures all of the desperation the
moment of clarity the well we’ll watch it but if you’re new here my name is
James sobriety is my gift and sharing it with you all is how I keep it I’ve been
sober since 2016 and that was after drinking and using for 20 years I post
videos on this channel every week check it out subscribe hit the bell like and
share to get the message out there scroll all the way down if you’re on
your phone to comment and check the links in that in the drop down
description for resources as well as my patreon link I’m trying to do this damn
thing Denzel Washington if you haven’t seen the movie crash lands a flight in
the very beginning he’s drunk high on cocaine but nobody knows that yet he
maneuvers the plane to where it ends up crash landing and saving hundreds of
people it was then found out that he is
suspected of drinking the miniature vodka bottles this scene that we’re
about to watch is that of him on trial he is he has the option in this scene to
save himself and save the airline by blaming it on what happened to be a
flight attendant that he was he had known intimately she died and the blame
can be neatly placed on her and the airline can save its reputation he can
save his life he’s been struggling with this alcoholism the entire movie as a
matter of fact before this trial he was wasted trashed in his hotel room that
was an awesome scene – maybe we’ll look at that another time Don Cheadle and the
and the other guy Bruce Greenwood is the actor represent you know they have high
stakes and whether or not he’s about to take the fall for this because he’s on
trial and it could end the airline it could end his life and this is one of my
favorite scenes in movie and cinema periods I am making this a playlist of
alcoholism and addiction in movies y’all can help me scroll comment down below if
you know any movies I’m thinking of doing leaving Las Vegas the flight is by
far my favorite one Denzel just he captures the desperation
the powerlessness throughout the movie of alcoholism commercial airline captain
whip Whitaker stands trial for suspicion for having alcohol and cocaine is blood
while landing the plane his toxicology report is inadmissible as you as you
also see in this upcoming clip the only toxicology report admissible was you
know his former Netflix and chill partner I guess you
could call it but friend and she’s dead and he’s facing the dilemma of saving
his own life and saving the airplane by placing it on her but struggling with a
much heavier dilemma as we can all relate let’s just check it out is it
your opinion that Katerina Marquez drank on that flight could you repeat the question is it your
opinion that Katerina Marquez drank on that site as you can see he’s got
bandaid on his head he had gotten so wasted in the hotel beforehand that he
he literally passed out and hit his head on the toilet that’s where John Goodman
is in this film that’s his cocaine dealer he called him
I mean it or actually the people trying to save him the people dragging him to
court Don Cheadle called his coke dealer John Goodman and they
did some coke before the trial because he was so drunk you know I laugh and I’m
sure you all who can relate can laugh too because the desperation the chaos so
he’s got the bandaid on his eye and the interrogator whoever that lady is is
asking is it your opinion you know that she drank the bottle there was two vodka
bottles found in the cockpit trash can and earlier in the movie it was actually
a good scene two he goes that’s funny they found two vodka bottles and Don
Cheadle was like why why is that funny he goes cuz I drank three he was just
down in these things he was talking to the
the this great movie was talking to the people in the in coach and everything
over the intercom hey sir captain speaking and while he’s doing that you
know he’s putting vodka in his orange juice but on the you know you can see
the desperation in his in his face and I’ve been there I’m sure you have too
this is a moment of truth for this individual and he straight killed it in
portraying an alcoholic but you can see he’s he’s faced with a dilemma in front
of the entire world is he is he gonna keep lying and you can see he’s he’s
dead exhausted about lying keeping up the lie he’s exhausted the gift of
desperation is about to be dawned upon him so let’s watch this next let’s just
watch I’m sorry my way your opinion captain since her toxicology report is
the only toxicology report that is admissible in this hearing and she in
fact tested positive for alcohol is it your opinion that Katerina Marquez drank
those two bottles of vodka on the plane you can see how he’s struggling and why
not you know you just feel the tension and one of the comments I ran into
online about this was a man I could actually smell the booze coming off of
him through their computer screen and when I was watching this and editing it
I I hit me I smelled it I smelled it because he’s playing it so well the
sweats coming out and he’s just sweating he’s licking his lips he’s wandering his
life he’s just so tired and I’m sure if you’ve looked up you know my channel and
are watching this you can relate but he’s just so exhausted he’s coming down
he’s been worn down and people what happens next what in my opinion the gift
of desperation dawns upon him and what may also be perceived by some as a
spiritual awakening because if you listen to his words and then after
everything after he said these very next words is can be arguably what saved him
so let’s check that out I’m sorry mr. Whitacre I couldn’t hear you what did
you say I said god help me yes well however is it your opinion excuse me mr. live she saved the boy’s
life that’s good you speak louder Katerina Marquez did not drink the vodka
because I drank the body because I drank the vodkas a everybody
goes nuts Don Cheadle and Bruce Greenwood done the Bruce Greenwood
actually objects it’s not a courtroom you can’t object I object anyway it’s
pretty funny but everyone but this isn’t their fight this is with whip Whitaker
William whip Whitaker is the character’s name it’s his flight an extraordinary
pilot saved everybody almost everybody on board but struggles the entire time
with what we have struggled with and it’s the Beast of of addiction and any
struggling and you know what he can save his ass but as soon as you said god help
me if you notice that he said god help me
everything after he said god help me and if you watch the entire movie this isn’t
him throughout the entire movie everything after he says after god help
me is complete honesty and complete surrender and we all know what surrender
is when we pick up that white chip or when we first sit down in the rooms or
say hey I’m James I’m an alcoholic some people have trouble I had trouble
am I an alcoholic and I’m really an alcoholic he didn’t want to admit but
the reason I like the scene is because no matter no matter what the only thing
that matters is his sobriety at this point and he’s done he’s done running
he’s done line now this next clip what I can relate to
is the fact that it’s all out it’s all out in the open and giant the weight of
the world and the entire universe is being lifted off of this guy’s shoulders
and he’s coming out with it and even though the interrogator is doing our job
and everything you can see the humanity on her face who she’s talking to the
entire world is well I mean if they’re not they just don’t understand but I was
empathizing with this guy and I totally understood that the relief that comes
with finally giving up and surrendering I’m an alcoholic
I have the reason I’ve had a I’ve told an employer the the car crash that the
reason I’m missing work I’m an alcoholic and you know what that was an electrical
Union and he said well why didn’t you tell me that we got a guy for that and
they sold they sent me to San Diego or rehab he said why didn’t you tell us
that you’ve been keeping it a secret this entire time we got a guy for that
this was the election with the construction industry they’ve got a guy
and that guy was in a and he sent me to rehab in San Diego it
was but the relief that this guy feels I can totally relate and I hope you gun –
what’s watching I drank the vodka bottles on the plane captain Whitaker on
the three nights before the accident October 11 October 11th October 12th and
13th and 14th I was intoxicated I drank all of those days I drank in excess on
the morning of the accident I was drunk well the shizz pervert really hit the
fan for this guy and he knows it but he in my experience this is the best moment
of this person’s life whether he’s feeling it or not but when when you come
out with honesty when you finally surrender to the powerlessness that this
guy’s fill out the entire movie and do the next right thing and you start doing
that stuff your entire world changes whip Whitaker actually now whether this
is a true story or not okay let’s watch the final one because he comes out with
it and then I’ll talk about whether apparently there was a crash in last
year or something it’s loosely based on that story but let’s watch the final
moments where he’s just like you know what while I Denzel do it could see
those just slightly better than I do and drunk now I’m drunk right now miss black because
I’m an alcoholic and that is the first time he says that
in the entire movie and if you’re given laid out there
I came to because they that is the most important step in that is remote whether
you’re doing the 12 steps or not admitting that we were powerless over
alcohol and then our lives have become unmanageable it’s the most important
step to do thoroughly that’s the reason it’s the first step and even if you
don’t like to call it a step admitting them I had to admit I was powerless I
could not drink successfully without horrible stuff happening and this is
surrender for him and the last 15 minutes of the movie or so it cuts to
him in prison the story is whip Whitaker got 16 months
in prison he was actively in Alcoholics Anonymous in the prison system and it’s
a beautiful ending to a tragic tale of a man with the same struggles than you and
I struggle with and I could totally relate but in my opinion and unless you
can change my mind that is my that is my top favorite moment of and I don’t
remember many moments two movies but that’s my that’s my favorite motion
picture movie moment involving addiction and alcoholics I’d love to hear your
opinion like I said if you’re on your phone scroll all the way down to the
comment section leave me a comment also let me know whether
movies you think I should cover next I’m making a playlist movies with alcoholism
