How to Quit Your Smartphone Addiction

How to Quit Your Smartphone Addiction

SOLEDAD: WHEN THE LATE STEVE
JOBS INTRODUCED THE VERY FIRST
IPHONE IN 2007, HE ANNOUNCED,
QUOTE, APPLE IS GNGOI TO
REINVENTHE T PHONE. 1.4 MILLION TOUCH SCREEN DECESVI
WERE SOLD THAT YEAR. AND TODAY THERE ARE MORE THAN 2
1/2 BILLION SMARTPHONE USERS
AROUND THE WORLD. SPENDING ON AVERAGE FOUR HOURS A
DAY ON THEIR MOBILE PHONES. MOST PEOPLE SAY THEY WANT TO CUT
BUT ONLY ABOUT HALF WHO TRY
SUCCD. GEORGETOWN PROFESSOR, CAL
NEWPORT, IS THE AUTHORF O A NEW
BOOK AND HE SAYS IT IS POSSIBLE
TO QUIT YOUR PHONE ADDICTION FOR
GOOD. IT’S SO NICE TO HAVE YOU.>>THANKS FOR HAVING ME. SOLEDAD: TALK TO ME ABOUT THE
GOOD A TNDHE BAD. WHAT IS LOST BY HAVING A DIGITAL
OBSESSION, AND WHAT IS GAINED? IF YOU PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN?>>IF YOU TALK TO PEOPLE WHO ARE
UNEASY ABOUT THE ROLE THAT THESE
DON’T FOCUS ON UTILITY. SO THE IUESS IS NOT WHAT I’M
DOING WHEN I LOOK AT THE SCREEN
IS IN ITSELF ALWAYS BAD, WHAT
PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT IS
THEY’RE SPENDING MORE TEIM
LOOKING AT THE SCREEN THAN THEY KNOW IS USEFUL, HEALTHY, TO THE
DETRIMENT OF THINGS THEY KNOW
ARE MORE IMPORTANT. SODALED: YOU SAY LIFE WOULD BE
BETTER AND ALSO YOU COULD BE
MORE SUCCESSFUL. AND I FEEL LIKE, OK, I COULD SEE
HOW LIFE WOULD BE BETTER. I WOULD NOT MIND BEING OFF
TWITTER. BUT HOW WOULD YOU BECOME MORE
SUCCESSFUL?>>ONE OF THE THINGS I’VE
STUDIED AND WRITTEN ABOUT IN THE
PAST IS THE VALUEF OTHE ABILITY
THE BETTER YOU’RE ABLE TO
CONCENTRATE, THE MORE INTENSELY
YOU’RE ABLE TO CONCENTRATE, FOR A LOTF O REASONS, THE MORE VALUE
YOU CAN PRODUCE. WE HAVE AOT L OF EVIDENCE THAT
IF YOU SPEND MUCH OF YOUR TIME
OUTSIDE OF WKOR CONSTANTLY
FEEDING YOURSELF STIMI ULAT THE
SLIGHTEST HINT OF BOROMED,
YOU’RE TRAINING YOUR BRAIN INTO PLACE WHERE IT’S GOING TO HAVE A
HARD TIME FOCUSING WHEIN T COMES
THAT CAN HAVEPR OFESSIONAL
REPERCUSSIONS. SOLED:DA HOW DOES TECHNOLOGY OR
BEING SUCKED INTO TECHNOLOGY,
MORE THAN THE TECHNOLOGY ITSELF,
EFFECT YOUR BRAIN?>>THERE’S A LOT OF DIFFERENT
NEGATIVE IMPACTS THAT WE’RE
STARTING TO PULL APART. THEY’RE CONVERGINGOW TARD
CONCLUSIONS THAT AREN’T THAT
GREAT. ONE THING WE KNOW, FOR EXAMPLE,
IS THAT OUR BRAIN IS HIGHLY
SOCIAL. THE SECRET TO OUR SPECIES’
SUCCESS — SPEE SEE’S SUCCESS IS
WE’RE GOOD AT WORKING WITH OTHER
PEOPLE. AOT L OF OUR BRAIN IS DEDICATED
TO THE DIFFICULT TASK OF HOW DO
I SIT ACROSS FROM SOMEONE AND
HAVE A CONVERSATION AND READ
THESE CLUES AND ESCU AND BODY
LANGUAGE AND TONE OF VOICE? DIGITAL INTERACTION,O S IF IT’S
JUST TEXT, OR JUSTMO EJIS OR
LIKE BUTTONS, FOR EXAMPLE,
DOESN’T USE ANY OF THESE
SYSTEMS. AND FROSOM OUR BRAIN’S
PERSPECTIVE, WHENE W REPLACE
MORE OF THE SORT OF REAL-WORLD
CONVERSATION WITH MORE OF THE
DIGITAL INTERACTION, FROMHE T
PERSPECTIVE OF OUR EVOLUTIONARY BRN,AI WE’RE LONELY. IT DOESN’T KNOW THAT THIS IS THE
SOLEDAD: YOU HAVE A MILLION
FOLLOWERS ON FACEBOOK BUT YOU
ACTUALLY ARE A LONELY, SAD
PERSON. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE TO
PEOPLE WHO SAY, OK, I’D HAD LIKE
TO BE A MINIMALIST? IT AWAY, DON’T SLEEP WITH IT,
ONLY SCHEDULE TWITTER BETWEEN
5:00 AND 60:0 P.M.? WHAT SPECIFIC ADVICE WOULD YOU
GIVE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE
MINIMALISTS BUT ALSO LIVE IN A
REAL WORLD?>>TIPS ALONE DON’T SEEM TO BE
WORKING. SO I HAVE A MUCH STRONGER
RECOMMENDATION I MAKE TO PEOPLE. WHICH IS, 30 DAYS WHERE WHAT
YOU’RE GOING TO DO IS STEP AWAY
OMFR EVERYTHING YOU CAN STEP
AWAY FM,RO PUT SOME PRETTY
CAREFUL FENCING AROUND IT. I’M ONLY GOING TO USE THIS, I
HAVE TO USE THIS FOR WORK, BUT
VERY CAREFULLY. MAYBE NOT ON MY PHONE, ON THE
COMPUTER. INSTEAD OF JUST GOING BACK TO
EVERYTHING YOU BEGAN WITH, SAY,
I’M NOW GNOIG TO REBUILD MY
PERSONAL DIGITAL LIFE FROM
SCRATCH. I’M ONLY GOING TO ADD SOMETHING
BACK IN IF I HAVE A VERY STRONG
STOR
Y FOR HOW THIS IS GOING TO SIGNICIFANTLY BENEFIT SOMETHING
I VALUE. JUST LIKE MARY KONDA WOULD SAY. SAY, DOES IT BRING YOU JOY?>>I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT HER
AFTER THIS BOOK CAME OUT BUT
WE’RE BOTH TALKING ABOUT MINIMAL
IM– MINIMALISM. SHE WOULD SAY, TAKE EVERYTHING
OUT OF THE CLOSET AND ONLY BRING
BACK WHAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT. THAT’S WHAT WE NEED TO DON I OUR
DIGITAL LIVES. YOU HAVE TO CLEAN OUT THE
PROVERBIAL CLOSET OF THESE APPS CAREFULLY SAY, WHAT DO I REAYLL
NEED IN MY LIFE AND HOW AM I
GOING TO USE IT? TECH TO GREAT ADVANTA GEBUT THEY
USE IT A LOT LESS THAN PEOPLE
THEY KNOW A GNDETTING MORE VALUE

  1. This professor tells us that our species evolved to be addicted to cell phones. He wants us to further evolve to put down the phones for 30 days. Doesn't he know this will take us another million years to do that!!? Evolutionists…..ppfft….. idiots.

  2. I'm not religious. But … this reminds me of what the Hebrew Bible says in the book of Daniel, where it states in the last days "knowledge shall increase" – not wisdom, not love, not virtue!

Those who are ATTACHED to smart phones, social media, facebook, and screens, will negatively be impacted physically, mentally, socially, financially, and SPIRITUALLY!

For how in the world can you love the world if you are not PRESENT and ATTENTIVE enough to even notice how people feel and what's happening around you ???  Everyday, I see in public, folks and children with phones walking like zoombies lost in a mind-world!  Nobody hardly greets you and say hello like they use to!  😐
