Jesse Carrillo – This Is Something Real (Stories Of Addiction Recovery)

People often ask me…
you know, “Doesn’t this feel really great? Doesn’t this feel amazing to do?” And, I mean, obviously. It – it does. But what is truly amazing… is… it doesn’t
happen on the day of; the day that people enter into treatment. I am fortunate that like I still go to meetings. I remember I look at this one individual,
or this individual, and I’m like, “Wow, I remember how utterly hopeless and
depressed and anxious and just fear-driven that these
people were… upon entering treatment.” And then fast-forward
fifty some-odd days later? And they begin to share in these meetings? And like, I can… begin to see the light
go off up here. I can see the hope in their eyes. I can hear them talking about wanting to be
better. Wanting to be better for their family. For themselves. They start talking about a higher power, which… again, thirty / forty days ago? Non-existent. They were completely closed-off to this idea
of a spiritual life, of a spiritual program. And now they’re alive. And like…
that’s not something – you know, lip service is – is one thing. And I can easily tell when someone pays me
lip service. But this is something different. This is something real. And there are things happening here that are
just amazing. I personally can count on one hand the amount
of times I made a decision in my life that was going to truly
alter the – my future. And… at first place comes that – that
decision to walk into treatment. And… try to make myself better. There’s always a million reasons not to
do something. Somebody that’s still struggling has got
their brain most likely pulling them in a thousand different
directions. And what I would say to them is that, “There
is always a solution.”
