Teen Drug Abuse in the US

Hi I’m Elora Murray at Fusion 360 Studios
reporting for Odyssey House News.No parent or guardian wants their child to fall into
the grasp of a drug or alcohol addiction; but the sad truth is that this very thing
happens to many teens in our country. Here are some stats and facts behind teen drug abuse in the
US.27.2 percent of teens used illegal drugs in 2014.In that same year 19.4 percent of
high school seniors participated in binge drinking. In addition, less than 40 percent
of teens view smoking marijuana as risky behavior.Furthermore, teen drug use can lead
to addiction, unsafe sex, struggles in school and health problems. Here are a couple of things
that can increase the risk for substance abuse, ADHD, depression, or other mental health conditions,
experiencing a traumatic event (especially abuse), poor self-esteem or other social coping
problems and having friends or family members that abuse drugs or alcohol. If you know a
teen struggling with an alcohol or drug addiction there are professionals, like those at Odyssey
House, who are ready and willing to help them overcome their addiction and move on to a healthier and better life. Once again, I’m Elora Murray with Odyssey House News. Thanks
for joining us.
